Scholarships & Community Awards – 2018

West Virginia University – WVU and the School of Theatre & Dance plans to award a scholarship valued at the cost of university tuition to attend WVU. They will be selecting a student based on their achievements in the fields of Theatre Design and Technology or Musical Theatre Performance. The Application and other pertinent information is available HERE.   Auditions will be held at the State Theatre on Tuesday, May 22.


JUST BORN Education / Community Impact Award is awarded to the school that best connects its musical production to other areas of academic study OR to a community project or event. Please be specific regarding teaching methods, plans, for involving the broader school or community, and the anticipated or actual outcome of these efforts. Includes a $1,500 Cash Award to the School. Click HERE to download the application. Applications must be submitted by the School Director. Deadline – April 30, 2018. (The Nominating Committee selects the school to receive this award.)


DeSales University – $5000 scholarship opportunities (renewable for 3 years for a total of $20,000) will be offered to the recipients of: Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role and Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. Recipients need not be seniors, scholarships will be held for all recipients that apply for and are accepted to DeSales University in the theatre major provided they matriculate as a full time traditional undergraduate student in the fall following high school graduation.


Pennsylvania Youth Ballet/Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley – Three week scholarships to the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet Summer Dance Intensive are available to all nominees for the FREDDY© Award for Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer. Nominees may choose three weeks out of the six week program that best fits their schedule. Nominees will receive a certificate after nominations are announced with further details.


R. Richard Knauss Foundation — $1,000 in cash awards will be awarded – $500 to the school that is awarded the 2018 FREDDY© for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical – $500 to the school that is awarded the 2018 FREDDY© for Outstanding Overall Production by a Smaller School


Northampton Community College – State Theatre FREDDY© Awards Scholarship consists of a $1,000/Year Scholarship for NCC’s 2018-2019 academic year. Students applying for the 2018 NCC/Freddy Awards Scholarship DO NOT have to be Theatre Majors BUT they must plan to enroll at NCC for the Fall 2018 semester, and be registered for 6 or more credit hours. The award recipient must notify NCC Scholarships Department when they have registered for Fall 2018 classes.  Download the application. Deadline April 30, 2018.


East Stroudsburg University – The East Stroudsburg University Theatre Department/State Theatre FREDDY© Awards Scholarship consists of a $1000/Year Scholarship for ESU’s 2018-2019 academic year. Click HERE to download the application. Application deadline – April 30, 2018.


Civic Theatre Outstanding Student Director Award and Internship – This will be awarded to a student director who has an interest in a directing career or avocation and has shown not only aptitude but enthusiasm for the art of directing or choreographing. Teachers can nominate student directors and/or choreographers who would be interested in working as assistant director and/or choreographer on a production at Civic Theatre of Allentown. Muhlenberg College – The Muhlenberg College Scholarship consists of $5,000 Annual Scholarship to the Department of Theatre & Dance, renewable for three years, to a student attending a school which participates in the 2018 FREDDY© Awards program who has been accepted by and decides to attend Muhlenberg College. Cedar Crest College – The Cedar Crest College Scholarship consists of $1,500 Annual Scholarship in Dance or Theatre, renewable for three years, to a student attending a school which participates in the 2018 Freddy© Awards program who has been accepted by and decides to attend Cedar Crest College. Mowad Turf Specialists, LLC – $1,000 in cash awards will be awarded – $500 cash award to the recipient of Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and $500 cash award to the recipient of Outstanding Performance by an Actress in Leading Role


Lehighvalleylive.com and The Express-Times – As sponsors of the 2018 FREDDY© Awards, will offer a $1,500 scholarship to the recipient of the 2018 Student Achievement Award, which is announced at the FREDDY© Awards Ceremony. This is a self-nominating scholarship, and is available to students who participate in their school’s musical theater program in a backstage capacity, such as a stage manager, stage crew, scenic design, student/assistant directors and choreographers Students nominees must complete the 2018 Student Achievement Award Self-Nomination Form. Arts Community of Easton (ACE) Performing Arts Scholarship – $500 Scholarship available for students who plan to continue performing arts education in college. Click HERE to download the application. Deadline May 30, 2018.
