2012 Awards
2012 Centenary College FREDDY Scholarships – consist of a $5,000 Annual Scholarship for any student who majors in Theatre at Centenary College, and is renewable for an additional six semesters provided the student is making satisfactory academic progress. Any student who is nominated for a 2012 FREDDY© award who is accepted to, and enrolls in Centenary College is eligible. This scholarship may be combined with other merit-based scholarships awarded by the College.

2012 DeSales University Scholarship consists of $2,500 Annual Scholarship to the Theatre Program, renewable for three years. Given annually since 2003, the partnership between The State Theatre Center for the Arts FREDDY© Awards and DeSales University creates a unique opportunity for developing young performing artists from Pennsylvania or New Jersey to receive a comprehensive education through the Theatre Program at DeSales University, under the leadership of Dennis Razze, Chair of Theatre.

2012 Muhlenberg College Scholarship – The Muhlenberg College Scholarship consists of $5,000 Annual Scholarship to the Department of Theatre & Dance, renewable for three years, to a student attending a school which participates in the 2012 FREDDY© Awards program who has been accepted by and decides to attend Muhlenberg College.

2012 Northampton Community College Scholarship – The 2012 Northampton Community College Scholarship consists of $1,000 Annual Scholarship renewable for a second year to a student attending a school which participates in the 2012 FREDDY© Awards program who has been accepted by and decides to attend Northampton Community College.

The Express-Times, a sponsor of the 2012 FREDDY© Awards, will once again offer a paid summer internship to the recipient of the 2012 Student Achievement Award, which is announced at the FREDDY© Awards Ceremony. The Express-Times is dedicated to matching the skills of the student with the company’s needs. Therefore, aspects of the internship could include writing/reviewing, photography/illustration, layout/design, marketing or business, depending on the student’s strengths and interests. Teachers in participating schools are invited to make recommendations for students who have given their time and talent towards their production in a backstage capacity, such as a stage manager, stage crew, scenic design, student/assistant directors and choreographers and has consistently demonstrated a positive work ethic.

The Educational lmpact Award was introduced in an effort to recognize the broad educational benefit derived from students participating in high school musicals. Overall this award considers how you plan to connect your musical production to other areas of academic study (i.e. connecting a production of 1776 to an American history curriculum; connecting the management of the production schedule and/or budget to business management classes etc…) Please be specific regarding teaching methods, strategies for involving the broader school community, and the anticipated outcome of these efforts.
***The Nominating Committee selects the school or schools to receive this award; however, an award will only be given in this category if there are worthy candidates.***

Civic Theatre Emerging Young Director Award and Internship – This will be awarded to a student director who has an interest in the directing career or avocation and has shown not only aptitude but enthusiasm for the art of directing. Teachers can nominate student directors and/or choreographers who would be interested in working as assistant director on a summer show at Civic Theatre of Allentown, assisting Artistic Director William Sanders. This award pays a stipend.

- $500 cash to the school that is awarded the 2012 FREDDY© for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
- $500 cash to the school that is awarded the 2012 FREDDY© for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
- $500 cash to the school that is awarded the 2012 FREDDY© for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
WILSON BLACK TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP
Wilson Black Photography creates an opportunity for young students from Pennsylvania or New Jersey to receive a $500 scholarship toward his/her education in performing arts. Mr. Black is pleased to offer a scholarship to a student who plans to attend college with a major in technical theatre.
